Some of my most cherished parts of the day are in solitude.
A long, morning walk.
Time at the keyboard, filling the blank page.
Time with a coffee and head buried in a book.
A strength training session.
These are small but powerful pleasures. My life is richer when I make time for them, unhurried and unrushed. They make the time spent with others more special when time for company comes.
You may be the same.
Solitude is not lonely
So often solitude is used in the negative. As if any time alone leads us automatically to loneliness and is to be avoided. Not so in my experience.
This time is just as necessary as time with others is. Yin and Yang together are more powerful than either or alone. The contrasts have a symbiotic relationship. We need both.
Solitude allows us time to reflect on ideas. Ponder ways forward. It’s a time where we can confront ourselves, challenge our own beliefs and grow.
Time alone allows us to reset. To slow down and take in the view. We can refresh overworked minds and bodies. Refuel.
