What was your favorite superpower as a kid?
Time travel?
Mind reading?
Super strength?
Superheroes are the stars of the show, as they use their talents to gain control over the situation.
I’ve aspired to do the same in my own life, by trying to control the uncontrollable.
I made detailed plans to try and control the future.
I met the expectations of others to try and gain their approval.
I offered unsolicited advice to try and “fix” other people’s problems.
Yet, we can’t control our future, what others do, or what they think of us. The sooner we stop trying to control the uncontrollable, the sooner we reach peace.
Not all heroes wear capes and not all minimalists live in tiny homes. Superheroes can’t choose their superpowers, but we get to choose which qualities of minimalism we want to bring into our lives.
Through minimalism, I’ve learned to let go of anything that doesn’t serve my well-being or tranquility. It’s an ongoing effort, but it has led to some great outcomes.
More time.
More energy.
More fulfillment.
We can’t control everything, but we can choose to let go.
As an adult, I have a different perspective on superheroes. Minimalists are my favorite superheroes and letting go is my favorite superpower.
